Here's a hands-on fun literacy center. Students create their own spring-themed sentences with the given combinations of sentence parts and conjunctions. They write them on a recording sheet.

Here is a Newly Posted Freebie!

I hope I see a little love on this product with a bit of feedback :).So I've been noticing that some of my second grade ELLs really don't know how to count money. Some cannot even identify coins! I was flabbergasted that they didn't know  the difference between a penny and a dime. Mind you, these are not my emergent babies who cannot read. These are my beginner/intermediates. Short of asking if their previous teachers taught money, I decided to take matters into my own hands!! I created this little product for this very reason and decided to pass it along to you.  I sure would like to know if this helps your kiddos. I had fun with a first grade class during an inside recess while I was relieving a first grade teacher during my recess duty. The kids really liked this activity and there were giggles all around.  It's a freebie, too, which makes it even better.  I hope if you pick this up you leave me a little love with some feedback. Happy 2017!

I don't know about you, but for me the testing crunch is on! When I go back to school I am going to be working towards getting my students ready for MAP testing and OELPA testing. I use a variety of materials but one type of material I cannot live without are the ones I deem"close reads".  One of these Australian animal fluency/comprehension product. I spent the best part of a month researching to create it. One of them is a fluency product that ended up being both fluency and comprehension, so it works well for test prep. Even one of the selections in this file could be used for close reading activities that could extend more than a couple sessions with students. I like to number the paragraphs and dig deeply into nonfiction for details and context clues

Tips to Help Your English Language Learners

If you have English language learners in your classroom you already know that teaching reading for this group can be a challenge. Many teachers simply have not had much exposure to the kinds of strategies that can help these kids learn. Just like all other students teachers serve, English language learners have varying abilities and reading levels. What makes it complicated is when students arrive with no language skills other than maybe knowing the words hello and my name is....

Because of this challenge to the homeroom teachers in my building, I created this free resource as a kind of guide to help direct their instruction. I hope it is a help to all the teachers who feel they are helpless with the immigrant students. They need advocates and we, the teachers, are the ones to do it.
